Warm-Up Times
Warm-up times will be posted on the bulletin board and through e-mail. In order to allow ample time for stretching out, swimmers should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the designated warm-up time.
What To Wear At Meets
All swimmers should wear their MAC caps, MAC suits, and any MAC spiritwear that they might have. (Anything royal blue and gold will do!) We really want to enhance our team image and promote team spirit again this year.
What To Bring To Meets
Swimmers should bring at least two towels to dry off with and warm clothes to put on in between events. (The first towel gets pretty wet just after warm-ups!) Blankets and sleeping bags may be brought for swimmers to sit on, but let’s try to avoid getting too comfortable in them. (Please leave the sleeping for the night before!) Although most meets will have a concession stand, I would recommend bringing a few healthy snacks to the meet, as a lot of the food sold at concession stands contains high levels of sugars. Foods that contain a lot of sugar will “bottom out” energy levels. Bagels, cereal, fruit, granola bars and trail mixes are great alternatives. Also don’t forget to keep the swimmers hydrated with liquids throughout the meet.
Behavior at Meets
Swimmers should avoid running around at meets. (No horseplay!) Energy should be conserved, not wasted, while waiting in between events. Since the swimmers are waiting sometimes 30-40 minutes in between events, it might be a good idea to pack books and games to help occupy their time. (Boredom tends to bring energy levels down too!) Of course, we always encourage cheering for other MAC swimmers as a way to “pass” time.
Meet Departure Time
Although swimmers are pretty much free to leave when they are finished with their last event, please make sure they check with their ability group coach before leaving to make sure they aren’t needed for a relay. As well, at the end of the meet, make sure we do a good job cleaning up our team area. Our rule of thumb on cleaning our area: “Leave it better than how we found it.”
